Tech 10 sticker kit Now then, let me begin by stating that these aftermarket boot graphics are not official Alpinestars jobbies. No, they’re made by some enterprising British chaps and sold through Twig MX (www.twigmx.co.uk). I think it’s fair to say that a decent percentage of dirt bike riders are, like me, peacocks. By that I mean we want to look good. And why not? Most of us are never gonna ride like Ricky Carmichael, but check us out in the car park and we’ll sure as hell look like him. Maybe even better – he is short and ginger, after all. If you’re lucky (and wealthy) enough to own a pair of Alpinestars’ super-sharp Tech 10 boots – and let’s face it, they are very popular among us peacocks – then for a relatively modest outlay you can customise them with a sticker kit boasting your very own name and race number. Bling diddy bling. Ding ding. Okay, so they’re not gonna make your bike any faster, nor will they help you clear that big triple, but rest assured they will be the subject of much debate in the paddock. My own personal boots, which unashamedly announce my affinity to this here magazine, have stirred laughter, raised eyebrows and even caused argument. Some think they’re ace. Some think they’re pointless. And some think I should have given some money to charity to offset the cash I wasted. I happen to think they’re rather snazzy and something a bit different. At £45 they’re not cheap, but I’ve had mine for three months now and they’ve stood up to riding and constant jet washing incredibly well, with little sign of wear. (One part of the kit pealed off from the toe area, but that’s because I didn’t stick it down very well. My fault.) Only you can decide whether or not they’re worth the money; if it helps swing it, you can pick three colours from a possible ten (white, red, blue, black, green, grey, orange, yellow, pink, purple) and they’re guaranteed not to increase your carbon footprint or kill any polar bears.
