The Right Stance
Welcome to the first of MotoX’s enduro help pages. Kiwi’s Top Tips are just like Pro Daddy’s Ride Better series, the only difference being that Pro Daddy’s on side for the motocross dudes while Kiwi’s yer man for enduro and cross-country. Over the coming issues Kiwi will cover all manner of advice for those who are setting out on the going for the first time, pretty much starting from first principles. We hope they help.

TopTips#2
Your First Enduro
Last month we had a look at one of the first principles in enduro riding, namely adopting the right standing position for riding. We will in time start going through further techniques, such as log hopping, ditch crossing, probably even special test riding and a lot more. But we sat back this month and figured this early in the series it may be worthwhile to lay down the absolute basics about enduro first, because there’ll still be a bunch of you for whom this will be brand new. So before we go flat out in fourth down that firebreak lets first explain how to arrive at the very first check.

Sand
Sand is the novice enduro rider’s worst nightmare. There’s something about the way it grabs your front wheel and wrestles you to the ground. But when tackled with confidence and the correct technique it can be the best fun in riding.
So how do you turn a nightmare into a dream? Kiwi’s going to show us.

Sand
We hope you’ve had a chance to get out and practice sand
Riding since last month. Chances are you just might have,
Given that this time of year it’s about the only terrain that’s rideable.
Anyhow this month in the second part of our sand tips we’re going to have a look at two techniques for cornering, in sand. Over to kiwi.

Basic Jump
This month I am trying to steer away from sand, however, as all my test tracks seem to be covered in the stuff it is proving to be a tad difficult. Anyhow, for this instalment I’ve decided to offer advice on one of the major hang-ups for those new to enduro riding: the art of jumping…

Plain & Wheelie Pivot Turns
Every so often we end up heading in the wrong direction. That maybe because we missed an arrow, followed that gun rider into a dead end or just plain need to get back the way we came because the shortcut (ahem) we thought would be ace has turned out to be way too hard. So we need to do a 180. Yep, this month, with the aid of Jubba (well known for pulling 180s), I’m going to take you through two techniques for a quick about turn.

Clearing Obstacles
There’s no escaping the fact that when you’re out riding trails, at some time or other, you’re going to find yourself confronted with a fallen tree that’s blocking your path. Now, you could just go round it, but that’s slow and opposes the spirit of off road riding, so, what you want to do is skip over it, stylishly, of course. Over the next couple of pages we’ll show you how to float over obstacles safely and – once you’ve mastered the technique – surprisingly gracefully.

TopTips#8
Drop Off
They can be daunting, scary even, but big drop offs needn’t be a hassle.
As with most things, get the right technique and go into it with 100% commitment and you’ll be dandy; hopefully. No you will, we promise.

Fancy a Root?
Another one of Enduro’s nasties – the protruding root. It’s rarely seen on motocross tracks due to the lack of trees (obviously), but when you’re weaving in and out of the forest during Enduro and Cross Country races roots can become really exposed and, as the track becomes worn and eroded, they can be quite gnarly.

TopTips#10
Squaring-off Corners
It’s common sense really, but squaring off a corner can translate to a faster lap time. Not only that, but it can also help you avoid the rough stuff, setting you off to tackle an alternative route on a much smoother line. But you’ve gotta be smart to spot when and where to use the technique. You are smart, aren’t you?

Stand to Attention
Standing is the enduro rider’s common stance, but how many of you stay upright when you see a corner approaching? In this installment of top tips we’ll teach you how to save energy by tackling corners in the stand-up ride position and, if nothing else, you’ll get a nice butt…

Stuck in a Rut
Ahh, the dreaded rut. They can be tricky little things, designed to cause stress, panic and – occasionally – pain. But use the right technique and your confidence will grow with each ride, replacing your trepidation with faith and rendering you a semi-accomplished trail rider.
