Riding Position
Perhaps the most important aspect of riding or racing a motorcycle is to be comfortable and relaxed on the bike.
The first place to start is with your riding position. So lets take a detailed look at the relationship of you to the handlebars.
It seems basic, but go along to any practice day, how often do you see guys who haven't got this sussed? Countless times, eh?

Cornering #1
This ‘doing it right’ thing. It’s not easy is it? Just remember those Rick Johnson words: ‘its about doing the basics well’. So, for this month we are looking at basic cornering. Except there’s no such thing. All cornering is complex whether you are talking a flat turn, a bermed corner or a fast kink. All of them need a lot of work if you are going to do them well. So we’ve give Paul ‘Pro Daddy’ Malin a flat corner to work with. You see them all the time and you know they aint easy. So here’s how Pro Daddy does them.

Cornering #2
Tonight Matthew...I’m going to beeeee... Turning bloody loads betterrer! Okay, here we go, continuing on from last month which, if you missed it, was entering and coming out of turns, and flat ones at that. So, how many riders struggle when it comes to those tight inside ruts? The ones where you have the option of a soft easy berm half a lap†further around to the outside or that awkward front brake clipping, tight rut to the inside. Hands up those of you who said you would go to the outside...

Now that you are coming to terms with how to improve your overall cornering ability,
you now need to move onto the next stage of improving your riding. JUMPS!

Tabletops
If you remember last month, we covered the basic jump, or speed jump as some people like
to call it. This month, however, we will look at THE TABLETOP.

Pre-jump
OK, so last month we continued our tutorial about jumping with a look at the dark art of handling tabletops. This MotoX sees the man Maler sharing more of his skills with the masses. This time that most elusive of track techniques - the pre-jump.

The Seat Bounce
As promised in last month’s issue, I said we be looking at another one of the advanced jumping techniques, otherwise know as ‘The Seat Bounce’, but what is it exactly? Well, to coin a phrase, it is exactly that. It is possibly the only time when you should take off from a jump when sitting as opposed to the normal technique of standing.

Slick off-camber turns
Happy New Year! After the Christmas and New Year festivities, I’m afraid it’s going to be back to school, and with the weather being a little bit naughty, things start to get just a little bit technical. The guys here at Moto X recently went deep into the Welsh countryside for a weekend’s testing, riding and playing, and there was a steep downhill section, a little bit bumpy, leading into a tricky little left-handed off-cambered turn. Sounds a bit dodge, does that, but what if I told you it was wet and slippery as well? Its sections like this that can gain or cost you time, so I will do my best to make things a little easier for you.

Riding in sand
After a short break the Pro Daddy is back with more riding tips to help make your favourite pastime or your racing just that little bit easier. Over the last year we have covered a whole multitude of different techniques, from basic riding positions to flat turns to jumping, though most of these have been on hard packed terrain. This month we will be looking at riding in the sand, and how to attack those bumpy, sandy turns standing up.

Jumping in sand
In our last issue we went sand riding, trying to master the art of standing up around sandy turns. This month, although we are staying with the sand riding, we are going to look at jumping and how important body positioning is in the air to help you prepare for when you land in the deep loamy conditions.

Starts
So far in Pro Daddy we have covered the basics from riding position to flat turns and from downhill braking to off-cambered turns, as well as jumps of all kinds. These skills can all be applied to all levels of riding ability, but what about those of you who ride for more than just the fun of it; those of you who go racing? What is the single most important part of any race, no matter what level? The START! It is the only place on the track where you can overtake everybody in one go, setting you up for an easier race than what you would have had, had you missed the start completely. As there are many different aspects to consider we will run this feature over the next couple of issues in order for you to gain as much knowledge as possible to get your technique down to a fine art. This month we will talk about PREPARATION.

Bad Starts
If you cast your minds back to last month, then you will recall that we began our tutorial on starts with the importance of preparation. However, this month we will focus on bad starts (strange, I know) but it is important to understand the reason or reasons behind why we make bad starts. Okay, so we’ve all made them, some more than others, but if you can try to find the consistency to come out of the gate cleaner, then your confidence going into a race receives a huge boost. So, read on.

Good Starts
By now you should be a little bit more in tune with the whole starting thing and you should definitely be aware of how to prepare your gate and how NOT to start. This month we are going to focus on how to make the (almost) perfect start, so listen up and pay attention.

Hand Job
It’s mid-summer, we are at that time of year when the circuit conditions are slightly harder and the weather is generally a lot warmer. It’s okay reading about how to jump this or how to rail that, but when you can’t hold on because your hands are covered in blisters then no matter what you try to do in the race, your mind is more likely to be pre-occupied by what’s happening to your hands. So what can we do to prevent them?

Setting up a pass
So, you’re in the race, buried mid-pack, maybe by some chance you’re even second, but you’ve been there, and stay there, the whole moto. You get back to the van and you’re not happy: ‘the track is so one lined, I couldn’t pass’ is possibly the most used phrase of any race day. Well, with the help of ol’ Pro Daddy all that is about to change.
